Hiring The Best Roanoke Movers

By Kristen Baird

When moving, there are a number of things that you will want to perform. First off, conduct an informal research on Roanoke movers. This is to help you establish which companies are known for offering high quality services. Use your connections, especially friends and colleagues. Send out an email requesting for information on companies that they may recommend or warn you against working with.

Interstate moving is a bit different from local moving especially when it comes to pricing. Charges will usually be based on total weight of goods being moved, distance being traveled and whether additional services such as packing are to be provided. It therefore will help if you can get more than one estimate.

You need to compile a list of all the things that you would like moved. A comprehensive list will guarantee that you will not get to forget anything. Forgetting anything, even though minor will lead to an increase in the relocation charges.

Goods are always protected when in the house by the home owners insurance. This insurance cover however does not cover any goods that are on transit. You need to get a separate insurance cover that will protect these goods for the entire duration of time they will be on transit.

Each mover will issue his client with a contract. This contract is known as the bill of lading and is used to cover the relationship between the mover and his client. You are advised to ensure you go through all these details as carefully as you can.

For any contract you get into, you will need to ensure that it covers a few things. It will need to cover charges, rates, the liability that this mover has for your items, when the pickup date will be, expected delivery date and information regarding claims. You can actually ask the company to provide you with sometime so as to go through it carefully.

If your schedule is flexible, schedule the relocation for the winter period. This is often when the market is experiencing a low season as there are not many people moving. You will therefore be provided with better rates during this time.

Once the items have been picked up, make sure to stick to the delivery date settled on earlier. If the date is changed, you may end up incurring some storage costs. This will cost you more money than what had been budgeted for.

When your mover finally delivers the goods, make sure that you go through the inventory you prepared when packing. Ensure that all the goods are present and that nothing has been damaged during transit. Any damages that may occur during transit are often the responsibility of your carrier.

Clients are encouraged to make sure they have checked on the legitimacy of the companies they are working with. This is to make certain that any firm that is selected is one that has a stellar reputation and one which can be trusted. This is to avoid working with firms involved in relocation scams.
