The Impact Of Fitting Chimney Caps In The Living Places

By Stella Gay

Housing designs developed should ensure high level of beauty. There are however circumstances that expose the building to factors that may lead to decline in the general appearance of the living places. Incorporation of fire places and kitchens within the main house has become a modern trend and this has exposed the roofing and the entire building to some undesired risks. In order to reduce the extent of these effects installation of chimney caps has become very necessary.

The hollow nature of these vents increases the chances of risky events taking place and this would have adverse effects. During events such as heavy storms, the water finds its way through the vents and may soak a floor in a home. Strong winds push back the smoke leaving the fire place to the house. Some birds use the vents to make their habitats and breed in the ceiling making it fall off. There is need to protect this passage.

In order to avoid the damages likely to occur as a result of the given factors, architects have designed different models of the caps. They are available in different sizes and shapes to fit on various vents. They can be made of solid steel plate which are perforated at the edges or wire mesh.

When selection the type of cover to purchase for fitting onto the vents, it is important to consider the shape of a chimney. The diameter of your chimney should be measured to ensure proper fitting of a cap. Enough distance should be allowed for the perforated part so that it can easily emit the smoke into the atmosphere to prevent movement of smoke to the house.

Various materials have been used to make the covers all over the world. Steel is however the widely used product because of its desired trait of high resistant to rust. Materials used for these purposes should be able to withstand rusting which is accelerated by the presence of smoke. Galvanization of steel is necessary to ensure long lifespan for the caps. Asbestos have also been used to design the covers since they also have high resistance to corrosion.

The amount required to acquire a set of such a cover is quite affordable. Investigations across many sellers have found out that the smallest unit of a cover made from steel sells at about 15$. The price however varies depending on the sizes and materials used. Custom covers can be made for various houses at an affordable price and reduce reliance on the industrial models.

There are different methods that can be used to fit the covers into the chimneys of interest. Some are designed in such a way that they can automatically fit into the space and are held by friction. Others require gum to keep them in position. For permanent caps that do not require removal for cleaning, they are cemented on to the vents to enable tight fixation to achieve great outcome.

Fitting of the covers has brought favorable outcomes to many home owners. The incidences of smoke flowing back to the house have reduced or ended completely. Birds have been kept away from breeding near the homes and this has made the ceiling last long without falling. It is important to ensure protection of the house by using these caps.
