Components Of Sprinkler Irrigation Systems

By Sonya Parrish

Sprinkler irrigation system Orlando involves the spraying of water into the air and then allowing this water to fall on the ground surface or plants. Sprays are developed by the flow of water under pressure through the nozzles. This type of irrigation is water saving and the farmers can apply soluble fertilizers on the crops over a wide area thereby cutting on labor costs and time.

The capacity of this system is the flow rate needed to irrigate a particular area and is measured in gallons per minute per acre. It is dependent on a number of factors such as the texture and infiltration rate of the soil. Such a system can be composed of one or several sprinklers depending on the area covered by crops for irrigating.

The basic system consists of a pump unit, mainline, sub mainlines, laterals and the sprinklers. The pump unit is always centrifugal and it pumps the water with the right amount of pressure into the pipes. Pumps can either be electrical or fuel driven. Most specialists advise their clients to have water storage tanks which would then be fed into the pipes.

Mainlines and sub mainlines are the pipes made from either plastic or aluminum alloy which supply the water to the laterals from the pump. They can either be installed temporary or permanent and this will depend on the ease of mobility that the owner prefers. In most cases, it is advisable to place them permanent so as to avoid breakages.

Spraying of water through the sprinklers is most suitable for crops planted in row form over a wide area. The nozzle releases the water at high pressures into the air. The water then drops onto the plant in spray form. Sprinklers can be set to spread the irrigated water over or under the canopy of a plant and this will depend with the climatic conditions of the area.

Laterals are made of aluminum alloy or plastic thereby making their portability much easier for users. Proper care and handling should be well maintained especially in cases of plastic pipes as they can easily break leading to increased costs in replacements. The water that flows in these pipes should be clean so as to avoid instances of dirt blockages which will make the system fail.

There are various types of sprinklers available in the market today. This will depend on the location of use and purpose. Residential sprinklers are just but one of the types which most home owners use to irrigate their lawn grass. It includes the impact, oscillating, drip and underground sprinklers. They are available in local stores at affordable prices.

Sprinkler irrigation system Orlando has enabled the beautification process in different parts of the town by ensuring that grass and flowers are well grown. It has also facilitated the growth of plants such as oranges and mushrooms which all have a high economic value thereby improving the living standards of the farmers from the sales they make.
