Issues On Mold Indoor Air Quality

By Frances Howard

Molds are already part of the environment. They can be found everywhere, it maybe indoors or outdoors. These can often be found in wet areas like sinks, bathroom curtains, and floors. So, to control the growth of molds, you should be able to control moisture.

Too much exposure of these may cause you to have skin, eyes, nose, lungs, and throat irritations. Mold indoor air quality problems are common causes of most health problems. These are slimmy black green organism that are usually found in roofs and walls. These are some species of mold which are uncommon and it produces toxic spores, this is according to some investigations.

Unlike any other types of problems in the environment that can easily be resolved by fresh air, growing organic substances like molds should be removed. Even if it is dead, it can still release spores into the air. There are molds that are considered as harmless, but there are also some which are considered extremely toxic. Though there are a lot of tests are being conducted for assessing potential risk levels from exposure, there are still a few documentation and regulations about it.

Nowadays, people become more sensitive of mold compared to people in several years ago, because most materials that are used in buildings today have a high exposure to molds since it contains high cellulose and have low nitrogen. Both contents are high targets of spores when the moisture is there. Materials that are from wet, water source must be dried immediately. This is considered to having a high relative humidity.

For people who are sensitive to this, inhaling and touching it may cause allergic reactions like sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, and skin rashes. And people with serious allergies may have severe reactions like shortness of breath. Spores can also cause asthma attacks to people with asthma. Infants, children, older people, people with diseases like infections, cancers, and lung diseases are more sensitive to this.

Getting rid of spores in indoors could be very impossible. Spores do not grow if there is no moisture. One way to prevent this is to control moisture inside. Always clean up the area and fix the water problem if ever you find some mold growth at home. Whenever you cannot fix the problem immediately, increase of mold growth can be possible.

If leaks and spills happen, dry it immediately. If these are dried directly within 24 to 48 hours, in most cases, spores will not grow. Roof gutters are to be cleaned and repaired regularly. In air conditioned rooms, always make sure that the drip pans are clean and the drain lines are properly constructed are flowing properly.

The humidity indoors should always be below the 60 percent temperature, preferably from 30 to 50 percent. Dry wet surfaces directly if you happen to see any condensation on walls, windows, and pipes to lessen the moisture. If there is condensation, it means that there is high humidity.

The use of biocides can kill living organisms. Chlorine bleach is not recommended for cleaning up. And also, do not ever mix chlorine bleach solution to any biocides since it produces toxic fumes. When cleaning up, always ventilate the area and exhaust the air to the outdoors.
