The Top Three Standards Cable Seals Should Adhere To

By Jason McDonald

People rely on cable seals because they are among the best security measures imaginable. In order for these expectations to be met, though, the seals in question must adhere to certain standards. Without these, the products that people rely on so much will not be as effective as predicted. Here are the three most important standards that not only help these seals stand out but instill confidence in those that utilize them.

ISO-17712:2013 - If you would like to discuss general practices, as they relate to seals, you will want to discuss the ISO. Not only does it cover many of the general standards that must be followed - inspection, documentation, storage, etc. - but it covers three main categories of seals. For the uninitiated, these are known as High Strength, Security, and Indicative. These are just a few reasons why seal manufacturers must adhere to the ISO.

C-TPAT - Every seal that is shipped out must be secure, which brings us to the topic of the U.S. Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism standard. Essentially, if a seal fails to adhere to the C-TPAT, it will be regarded as less reliable. Every seal made should pass the High Security Test, meaning that it can be transported and operate at a high level of safety. As companies like American Casting & Manufacturing will attest, the C-TPAT works to the benefit of potential buyers.

ISMA - Also known as the International Seal Manufacturers Association, this particular standard is also an organization that focuses on seal manufacturing and distribution. It is meant to build trust between manufacturing companies and consumers so that the latter can obtain products they can trust. How does one enter the ISMA, you may wonder? This requires one to follow various standards, including those related to security. Once these are followed, one can enter ISMA, provided they continually maintain the organization's standards.

These are three of the most important standards that cable seals should follow, so hopefully you now have a better understanding as to what they entail. In order to make the best purchases possible, a little research on your end goes a long way. Not only will you be able to purchase cables from a trusted company, but you can be certain that they will last. In simplest terms, it is an investment that you can be comfortable with.
