Discover Some Fascinating Details On The Chuck Pafenbach Trio

By Deborah Morgan

These days, more and more musicians are emerging from their hiding place and releasing music that people can listen to and enjoy. As more are contributing to the ever growing industry, genres are defined and redefined countless times, often developing new styles or developing old ones into a more modern context. Nevertheless, some styles are timeless and continue to be of much relevance today.

Jazz is one of those musical genres that have influenced other styles and created a huge impact with audiences across the world. The sound is defined by its use of poly rhythms and is heavily influenced by swing and blues. A band that has been playing songs that belong to this genre is the Chuck Pafenbach trio. For more information about them, here are some interesting facts you probably are not aware of.

Evidenced by its name, the band consists of only three permanent members. The first one is Jeff Hellmer, who is responsible for playing the piano. His life outside the band consists of him being a professor at the University of Texas. Furthermore, he is known to be the director of Jazz studies and is also a director for the local orchestra at school. Although he has not won any awards, he has been a two time finalist at various piano competitions in the United States. In his solo work, he released an album titled Peak Moments.

Their bass player is John Fregmen, another staff member of the same university in Texas. In school he teaches bass and how to improvise when playing, which has garnered much praise from audiences and students alike. By day he is a bass instructor and by night, he performs regularly at bars and composes music that has been used in many theme songs. These are most evident in American television shows and even blockbuster films.

Chuck is their drummer and is also the person who brought the entire band together back in 2000. Also a licensed professor, he is most known around the area as a local celebrity since appearing multiple times in Austin based publications. Often regarded as one of their best drummers and credited for numerous works in their many albums, including World Beat.

Their first work was released in two thousand two, during the year they came together to create music. It was recorded at the famous Bismeaux studio located in Austin, Texas. It contained only three songs and was appropriately titled Introducing. The three titles were all covers of famous songs, most notably a good rendition of Bye Bye Blackbird, originally performed by Ray Henderson was included.

In two thousand five, High Life was released and contained ten songs, all of which were covers of popular and classic singles from past generations. Its first track was Saint Thomas, which was performed originally by Sonny Rollins. Sam Seifert is the person responsible for its smooth production and Ann Pinion is the artist who designed its album cover.

Jazz Dance was released two thousand eight, and featured the artwork La Danse, by the famous painter Henri Matisse. Seifert worked once more with them, but contained some songs that were mixed by Chuck himself. It was recorded in the same studio and once again, contained ten songs.

The latest released compilation was in two thousand eleven and would be the eighth release by the trio. Titled World Beat, it contained nine singles, all of which were covers once again. Will Harrison is a notable contributor here in terms of production and the art was created by Jose Mata. Tune Up by Miles Davis would be the seventh track on album.
