How Companies Can Help In Saving The Planet

By Joshua Rogers

There is always a price to pay with progress. As the human population grows, economic activities grow with it along with technology. Increasing demands for consumer products makes businesses to expand capacity to meet the market demands. These activities mainly occur in urban areas where the human population is concentrated. Industries generate wastes and this can be controlled by hazardous materials management new York.

Several experiments and studies have been made on the negative effect of hazardous by products of human activities on the natural surroundings. Hazardous material is defined as material by products with chemical and physical properties that contain toxins, igniters, and other properties that negatively affects the property, life, and ecosystems.

These types of refuse are mostly generated by industry, mostly from factories and manufacturing plants. The most prolific among these are those that use chemicals, and these are the industrial giants. Petrochemical plants, pharmaceutical laboratories, steel plants, nuclear facilities, plastic and synthetic material production are but a few examples.

Underdeveloped and developing countries often do not have systems in controlling trash and garbage. Governments often turn a blind eye on this. Ineptitude and corruption is the main reason why several companies get away with bad practices that are inimical to the environment. Emerging markets are more than eager to welcome foreign investment.

A huge challenge awaits governments and businesses on how to deal with discarded materials like medical supplies, effluents from petrochemical oil and gas explorations, industrial solvents, and sludge. They also have to contend with large quantities of dangerous residential, construction, and small business wastes like electrical and electronic equipment, batteries, healthcare wastes, and others.

The largest producer of hazardous wastes are the first world countries. Europe and the Americas are the most industrialized nations. They eat up most of the resources on the planet and generate wastes like no other country. China, which is an emerging economy is also fast becoming one. The bulk of hazardous garbage is by products of industry.

Scientific research and studies have indicated that the key to managing this global problem is involvement. This is all encompassing in nature meaning all stakeholders like families, industries including the waste producers, governments, and the human population in general. These have a very impactful role in coming up with or improve systems by investing in effective management systems.

A clear and present danger is actually looming right in front of us. This is the trend in utilizing nuclear power plants to produce electricity. Unlike liquids and solids, radiation is unseen and can permeate inside residences undetected and unknown. It can even affect generations of unborn whose parents have been subjected to this element. Very recent tragedies have borne witness to this.

It is now a known fact that there have been incidences where these useless and harmful by product are dumped in poor and underdeveloped countries. This is a gross act of irresponsibility on the part of these rich nations. It is very ironic how these developed nations impose environmental restrictions poor nations for the environmental damage that they have created.
