Useful Information Regarding Bender Boards

By Andrew Myers

Landscaping edging materials refer to synthetic products that are designed to look like natural wood. They are used to provide edging to landscaping. Bender boards are a good example of landscape edging materials. These products are known by several brand names depending on where one is located. In the United States, the products are made from recycled plastic that is collected from various sources in the country.

These products are made into coils so that one can buy any size they want. The fact that the material is synthetic means that it does not rot like natural wood does. Also, it does not splinter or get affected by weather. Many prefer these synthetic edging products due to these benefits. One can do the installation without the help of an expert.

Unlike wood which requires being repainted, stained, and other forms of preventive maintenance, this edging material does not. It is capable of retaining it beauty and good looks for as long as it is installed. This reduces the cost of buying and installing it in the longer term. It can also be installed in all kinds of weather conditions without having to worry too much.

When installing this edging material, one is advised to start by collecting all the tools, equipment, and materials they need for the job. One should ensure that they buy enough coils of the edging material in addition to stakes needed for installation. One should ensure that they have enough stakes to be able to install them at intervals of 4 to 5 feet apart.

One needs to be equipped with a hand saw, measuring tape, knee pad, and a spade. The border that need to be edged must be measured using a string. Sometimes one may buy the board when they are not ready to do the installation. If this happens, the board should be kept until one is ready to install it. Heavy stones can be used to hold the board in place until it is used.

The installation process starts with marking the path on the landscape that the board will go through. The border should be demarcated using a string. After finishing the marking process, one ought to step back and look at how the borders are marked. Afterwards, one should dig a V-shaped trench along the string. The depth of the trench should be able to accommodate the entire board with only an inch protruding above the soil.

When the trench is all done, the board should be inserted into it. While inserting, one must ensure that one inch of the top of the board sticks above the ground. The board should be secured in place using stakes. In case one needs to cut the board, they should use the hand saw to do the job.

Once one has installed the board throughout the boarder, they can then fill back soil into the trench. The soil should be tapped using the spade to compact it a little. One can then set their plants in the bordered part of the landscaping. It is possible to subdivide the landscaping as many as necessary. Common parts that one can divide the compound into include landscaping, garden, lawn, and flowerbed.
