Chemical Free Cleaning Saves Environment

By Patty Goff

There are hundreds of products designed for cleaning your home. Most of them contain various chemical substances that are not particularly helpful to the environment. Moreover, you need different cleaning products for your furniture, kitchen, bathroom, floors and windows, to name just a few. In fact, you can make your home immaculately clean using only a few things you probably already have. Chemical free cleaning is cheap, efficient and non-polluting.

For making your lovely home absolutely spotless you need some baking soda, a bottle of white vinegar, a lemon or two, some olive oil and plain old sea salt. Using these ingredients you will be able to clean your sinks, bath tubs, kitchen cabinets, floors and walls, in short, your whole home. And you probably already have most of them in your cabinet.

A simple paste made of a few spoons of baking soda and some white vinegar is great for so many purposes. You can efficiently clean your sinks and bath tubs, ceramic plates, kitchen stoves and all other similar surfaces. Rub all filthy surfaces with generous amount of your paste and leave it there for a while. Scrub away all the dirt using a wet towel. Rinse and polish, and that's it.

This particular combination works very well when it comes to clogged drains. Simply pour baking soda in the drain, add a cup of vinegar and lid tightly for a minute or two. Fizzing mixture will unclog the drain. Rinse everything with boiling water and repeat if necessary. It's a good idea to do it once a week to keep everything running smoothly.

If you use lemon juice instead of using vinegar, this combination might be very useful for removing all types of stains on different textiles. It is also very good for making your silver clean and shiny. Silver made jewelry will become shiny again if you leave it in baking soda and lemon solution over night. Simply rinse and you will be surprised with the results.

If you have to remove really stubborn baked-on food stains, this might help. Mix one cup of white vinegar with one cup of water and spray this mixture over the stain. Wait for a while, and sprinkle a spoon of sea salt on it. Scrub the stain until it's removed. You can use soda instead. If you just hate the smell of vinegar, you can add some lemon juice or even a few drops of essential oil in your mixture.

White vinegar is really effective for cleaning windows and mirrors. Use some old spray bottle and fill it with one cup of vinegar and three cups of water. Add a few drops of lemon, and clean your windows. You could also use some vodka for the same purpose, but you might find something much more interesting to do with this particular fluid.

Wooden surfaces and natural stones such as marble and granite won't shouldn't be cleaned this way. The mixture of olive oil and lemon juice is really nice for wood furniture. Put a little bit on some soft cloth and polish your wooden surfaces. It will make them spotless, nourished and shiny. Plain alcohol works great when it comes to natural stone.
