Getting Into Preppers Groups May Not Be As Easy As You Might Think

By Iva Cannon

When people think that the government is being too harsh on a certain type of person, many of them will take to their own to protect themselves. This is not a bad way to go, they say, because they feel they are already on their own. They store up a lot of food, handguns and rifles as well as ammunition and plenty of first aid supplies. These are called preppers groups because they are preparing themselves for what is coming.

Sometimes it is not a danger from the government, but from a natural disaster that some feel will require that everyone will have to fend for themselves. These groups may only be as large as a family and their direct blood relatives. Others will be more than one family, but they will be connected in similar ways to each other. It does not matter how people are in each group. They support one another in all ways that do matter.

There is a lot of planning that goes into some of these groups elaborate schemes. A large number of them have special water filtering and storage facilities. Others will stock plenty of bottled water, sanitized for long life. The vast majority of them are prepared with generators that can run on many different fuels, including bicycle operated and hand pumps.

Food is needed by everyone for life and these preppers are no different. A lot of space will be devoted to this commodity. The dehydrated foods that are available will supply these members with a lot of vital body fuel that is necessary for the life they expect to find. These groups will need more than a standard bug out bag because they will be living the life a bug out bag only hints at.

Trying to get into one of these groups after they have established themselves will not be easy. By their very nature, they want to protect what is theirs and expect others to do the same. Their rations, stored goods and safety and hunting or defense measures and tools are for them and they do not feel the need to share very much.

Some groups are militant by their very nature and others are friendly enough when encountered. These militant ones are becoming prepared for when the government starts to come and confiscate guns and ammunition. They are not prepared to give up their second amendment rights and most people agree with that.

Those that agree about not relinquishing their second amendment rights, but are not a part of such a group is more open and outgoing about their need for secrecy, however, they still keep everything they have very close to their chest. They work more with legislative efforts than with what some would consider open warfare.

In short, when preppers discover disasters, whether natural or man made, they come together in a bond of preparation for the bad thing coming. They are not comfortable around other people who do not share their single minded attention to something that may be real or imagined. They combine resources, materials and knowledge hoping they have enough of whatever it takes to survive for a few more days, weeks, or months.
