Tshirt Printing Effectively Sells Products And Expresses Opinions

By Andy Flores

The watershed decade of the 1960s brought a massive amount of change to society, including how people commonly dress. The hippie movement popularized psychedelic colors, and the blank cotton t-shirt was a canvas waiting to be painted with bright pigment. Today, tie-dying has give way to tshirt printing that includes specific messages or images designed to express a point of view, or to promote a particular product or event.

Even though thousands of the plain white type are still being sold, custom-designed prints are practical, popular, and can be seen everywhere. There are several techniques in use today for duplicating a host of images ranging from company logos, slogans, and personal portraits, to popular paintings. One of the most widely used methods of creating these products is screen printing.

This method is not only economical, but has been used for many years on such common material as paper, wood, or even plastics. The colors are versatile, brilliant, and durable, lasting well even when worn often. The screen print techniques used today are a combination of modern digital processes and traditional methods of transferring images from screen to fabric.

When finished, screen prints are bright, clean, and crisp. The individual screens can be saved for future use, and the colors last very well through repeated trips to the laundromat. For more limited production runs, however, the heat transfer process is often used. It works best on plain, white fabric that cannot alter the color of ink being used. The end result looks good, but is somewhat easier to damage.

All-digital transferal techniques are gaining in popularity. The process works especially well for duplicating designs that have multiple colors or intricate designs, but do not require a significantly large production run. The digital process is especially effective for producing a limited number of high-quality shirts, and is more economical for restricted production.

Human beings in general like to watch other people, and a customized message printed on a shirt often gets noticed much more readily than a massive roadside billboard, or even the most jangling, repetitive TV commercial. As cost-effective advertising, printed shirts are nearly unbeatable. They are trendy, inexpensive, can be worn anywhere these days, and often make a lasting impression on those who see them.

Psychologically, identical shirts are very helpful in creating a group spirit in work situations, classrooms, or when playing certain sports. Not only do they impart a sense of belonging or membership, but they can create a temporary feeling of togetherness even in groups of uninterested and unrelated individuals. Because they are so fast and easy to print, they are good for gift-giving at occasions including family reunions, picnics, or even as party favors.

Tshirt printing is now quick and efficient because most print companies maintain easy-to-use websites. Whether your message is casual, outrageous, serious, or is intended to promote a product, it can be put on a t-shirt. In the end, most people actually enjoy getting a free promotional gift, and will end up wearing their special shirts long after the original event has passed.
