By Cornelius Nunev

For baseline standard of living, being able to breath is essential. Instead of spending lots of cash on electronic devices that filter out airborne contaminants in your home, did you know that certain houseplants contribute an excellent bargain for indoor air quality? Here are some fairly inexpensive ideas for those of you with a green thumb. Mix and match leafy and flowering plants and you'll find yourself breathing more effortlessly right away, with a gorgeous home to boot.

Try out the Snake plant

With the Snake plant you can clean your air of any benzene, toluene, xylene, trichloroethylene and formaldehyde. The plant costs between $15 and $70 dependent upon its size and can convert CO2 into oxygen during the night. That makes it great for the bedroom. The plant has many smooth, snake-like tendrils on it.

Get some Devil's Ivy

A plant that's simple to find, Devil's Ivy (aka Golden Pothos) starts at around $15. It screens formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, toluene and benzene.

The best could be Florist's Chrysanthemum

Florist's Chrysanthemum (aka Pot Mum) is inexpensive at under $5, but that's for the seeds, as the plant is difficult to find in stores already potted. The Chrysanthemum flowers are attractive, and the plant filters out formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, toluene, ammonia and benzene.

Peace Lily a great choice

For someplace between $35 and $50, you have a good looking plant that is not unlike the Pot Mum. It helps beat formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, toluene, ammonia and benzene.
