A trip to the US Virgin Islands is just not complete without spending time on St John shore excursions. This amazing island may be small but it certainly has plenty to do. At only sixteen square miles it is actually the smallest of the islands and over two thirds of it has been designated a national park.

Despite its small size St John is an island with a lot to offer. Designated as a national park, development has been kept to a minimum. This means the beautiful natural landscape is really what the visitors are coming to enjoy. A tour of the island usually takes about two hours and can be taken by taxi. The drivers are very fun and friendly. They also have plenty of local knowledge and this really makes the tour extra special.

With over nine hundred different species of wildlife, St John is a nature lovers paradise. There are so many things to do and see on this tiny island. Although it is only sixteen square miles there a few roads and getting around can be challenging. One of the best ways to get a great tour is to hire a taxi. One of the outings that is considered a must by most tour guides is a snorkeling trip. There are a great range of beaches to choose from but the most popular is called Trunk Bay. The sands are a glistening white and the water temperature is around eighty degrees all year round. Snorkeling and scuba diving equipment can be rented from local surf shops and there are many experience professions on hand to help.

Exploring the beaches is really a must on St John. The trade winds provide enough breeze to ward off intense heat. The waters are warm and perfect for swimming. The sand is almost white in many places and the perfect place to spend a relaxing afternoon. Many people also try snorkeling and scuba diving with an experienced instructor.

Those looking to spend a day or two on the island will find themselves spoiled for choices. The more energetic folks may want to rent kayaks for either a full or half day of exploration. They can paddle between the bays and beaches, enjoying the warm trade winds and spectacular scenery.

For most people it is also important to leave some time for a little shopping. Despite the size of the island there are still some outstanding shops and art galleries. On the last Saturday of the month, known locally as St John Saturday, there is a wonderful food and craft fair. This is the perfect opportunity for visitors to meet and mingle with the local people and enjoy freshly prepared foods and beverages.
