Steps Involved In Medical Waste Disposal Florida

By Harriett Crosby

This article considers the various procedures to be undertaken for medical waste disposal Florida. It is prudent however to start by understanding what the medical wastes are. Medical wastes are the unwanted wastes materials which come from a medical care facility like an hospital. These types of wastes includes things like discarded lancets, discarded surgical gloves, discarded gloves, removed body organs and many more.

These wastes are normally infectious to human beings hence they must be disposed in a proper manner. Example of the medical wastes includes the following. Removed body organs, glassware, discarded syringes and needles, surgical gloves and discarded lancets.

The first stage involved is the separation stage. At this stage, all the wastes are separated into different categories. This is to prevent the wastes from countering with each other. This may make them to be more dangerous and harmful to those handling them. The stage of separation is normally done at the point where the wastes are generated.

After the separation stage, the next step is transferring them in to an intermediate storage facility. Intermediate storage facility is normally used to store the wastes when they are waiting to be transferred to one place where the wastes are treated before being disposed off. This will enable the wastes to be removed from the place where they are generated daily. This is due to the fact that they are generated where patients are. The patience may not know how to handle the wastes therefore it is significant that the wastes are removed from the place where any other person can reach them.

The other step is where the wastes are transported internally within the medical care facility. For instance the transportation from where they are produced to where they are stored. It is always advisable that the transportation is conducted using trolleys which are meant for the transportation.

The people handling the trolley should be able to load and off load the wastes with ease. They should not struggle with them since they may get contaminated when they are struggling with them. Another thing to be ensured at this stage is that the edges of the trolley should not be sharp. This is because if they are sharp, they are likely to Damage the wastes bags and lead to the leakages of the waste and cross termination.

The other process involved is the transportation of the wastes from the central place to where they are going to be disposed. It is advisable that a specialized vehicle is the one which should be used for the transportation. The importance of using a specialized vehicle is to ensure that to ensure that the wastes are properly handled in a manner that it is appropriate. The edges of the vehicle must not be sharp as well.

During the transportation to the place where they are going to be thrown away, those handling them must also ensure that they do it in a proper manner. The vehicle used should be a special one specially meant for that purpose. The edges must as well be smooth and proper bags must be used for the disposal as well. These are stages involved in Medical Waste Disposal Florida.
