General Information On Mold Specialists

By Beryl Dalton

The word mold is used to describe the different types of fungi that grow within filaments and can reproduce through forming spores. Mildew is another term used to describe white or gray fungi that is often found in bathrooms. Mold specialists are the professionals who are sought out for their knowledge of fungi, ability to detect it and services for managing it.

This fungi can grow indoors or outdoors. It is known to thrive in environments that are humid, warm and damp. This can be found in nearly any environment or season. The most common forms of household mold found indoors: altermaria, aspergillum, penicillium and cladosporium. Although rare, a form of black mold might be found indoors.

It does not take much for this problem to spread or worsen. The fungi reproduces by forming small spores that are not visible to the naked eye. These spores are hardy and able to survive in many different conditions, including harsh and dry environments. They can travel through indoor and outdoor air and when they land on a surface where there is moisture, mold can begin to grow.

The fungi found outdoors is often part of the decomposition process of organic matter, including leaves, compost and dead trees. This type is usually found in dark and damp places or where plants are decomposing. Inside, this may be present in bathrooms or basements. This indoor fungi poses greater health concern than outdoor. It is able to compromise health and ruin the objects and surfaces it grows on.

They can use their special equipment and knowledge to analyze the space and determine the severity and type of problem at hand. People should seek out the best specialists available in their area.

Assessment and remediation are techniques that should be done by specialists. These professionals have been certified to identify the location, as well as the extent, of the hazard within a structure. Remediation refers to the removal or clean up of the affected space, and may be done in numerous ways.

Mold is found in nature, but there are problems that can develop when there are high numbers of spores. This is when there is a health risk to humans. Many allergic reactions and respiratory troubles are the result of exposure to these fungi. Some fungi creates mycotoxins that are very dangerous to humans and animals. Exposure to these can lead to major health problems, including death.

There are symptoms to look out for when identifying exposure: sinus and nasal congestion, eye irritation, runny nose, respiratory problems, throat irritation, headache, sneezing, skin irritation and cough. If people are not treated or the mold remains, major problems can develop, including various disorders, cancers and illnesses. If it is present indoors, it should be handled with diligence by skilled professionals.
