Prophets are to develop an intimate relationship with God since it is from this link that they acquire the ability to perceive what God is saying by visual or audible methods. Then they are to mark or ensure that what they receive is indeed a word from God.
One helpful insight and accurate definition regarding prophecy is - "the ability granted by the Holy Spirit to a believer to speak forth words which proceed from God that does come from the believer's wisdom, understanding or education." Sometimes what God reveals is for sharing immediately. Occasionally, the prophet may have to wait patiently for weeks or months and remain quiet, keeping that word in his heart until the correct moment.
To share what is in this book you must experience it personally. You cannot communicate this word if you have not eaten it and swallowed it and digested it. This part of Revelation is as personal as the messenger from Almighty God says, take it and eat it and receive it - all of it - and then proclaim it and share it.
Jeremiah wanted to run a mile from God when God called him to exercise a prophetic ministry. God had left the church of that day, and the Jerusalem priests were unaware of what had happened. The burden Jeremiah carried was hefty, causing him to weep. Weeping can be part of the experience of today's prophets.
