Tips On Marine Toilet Odor Control

By Greg Haus

Most of the modern lavatories today are easy to clean and maintain. However, if regular cleaning and maintenance of these important facilities are not done then the common results are bad odor and accumulation of dirt. Yacht toilet odor control is thus important in keeping the lavatories clean and smelling fresh all through. Here are some tips to achieve this.

It is uncommon to find such lavatories producing a bad stench. One main source of such a smell is usually the discharge hose. The smell is produced once the discharge hose becomes permeable. To solve the issue, it needs to be replaced with a better one. To confirm if the hose is producing the smell, rub it with a damp and clean cloth, if it has a bad smell then the hose needs to be replaced.

Poor connections leading to leaks can also be a cause of a bad stench. Checking if a leaking connection is the source of the bad smell is done in the same way as checking the discharge hose that is through using a cloth. Once a connection has been identified as the cause, it can either be tightened, but if this does not work then, it should be fully replaced.

The bad smell can also be as a result of grass or marine life trapped in the passage of the flush water. They are often trapped under the rim of the bowl. These organisms can either be dead or alive but will still result in a bad smell. To handle this problem, a strainer is installed in the intake line to filter the organisms from the water so as to clear it.

The bad smells can also be as a result of the ant siphon valve. Ensuring that it is properly installed will help make certain that the bad stench is avoided. Furthermore, you also need them installed as far from your house as possible. In cases that the actual cause of the stench is not identified, it is recommended that you contact an expert to carry out an overhaul of the system so as to identify and solve the problem.

A common mistake is flushing the head using salt water as it leads to scale deposits on the discharge channels and hoses of the system. This in turn results in a blockage of the system or leaking back of water from the discharge line into the bowl especially when the deposits are on the valves. Using white vinegar in flushing once a month will help reduce the number of accumulated deposits.

Acids can also be used to clear the calcium scales. The use of acid to clear the accumulates can be repeated over and over again till you are certain that the calcium scales are cleared completely as it does not affect the surface. Furthermore, to ensure that the pump walls are lubricated, and the leather parts and internal rubber are supple, you can use s dose of oil together with the vinegar flush on a monthly basis.

Keeping your lavatory clean and smelling fresh is not an easy task but with the above guidelines in the article, you can do so. The tasks are fairly easy as you can do them yourself. However, for any problems that you cannot understand or solve, you should contact an expert to address the problem instead. This will help you avoid causing further damage to the system as you try repairing it.
