The qualities that an individual has to have in order to accomplish it, is grit, perseverance and determination for doing hard work. Here are some of the very important tips that you need to keep in mind while preparing for the Civil Service examinations which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.

The patterns for the Civil Service examination have been changed since 2011, so in place of preliminary, the CSAT examinations are conducted by UPSC. Individuals that get through this level are considered to be eligible for the Civil Services mains examination. This is later on followed by the interview.

The most important thing that you need to remember is that you have to go through three levels of civil service exams, the preliminary exam, the mains exam and the personal interview round. The total duration for the completion of the examination is one year. You must never get discouraged if you are not able to clear for the first year as there are several others who clear the exam after few attempts. Once you have mastered all the subjects that you are going to appear and have also appeared for the first level of civil services examination at least, then you can work or prepare for other exams too.

Being precise the civil service stages of examination includes the Preliminary examination as the first stage for the selection of the candidates for the mains examination, the Mains examination for the selection of the candidate for the Interview and lastly the Personality Interview test.

Having a good study plan is the most important thing that you need to keep in mind. With the pattern changes and the introduction of CSAT, you need to make sure that you complete most of your exam portion of the Mains before January and then all your focus must be on the CSAT.

Once you have cleared the CSAT, you must not stop and continue with the preparation as the upcoming months are going to be tougher than the current level, so no break must be taken. The next few months where you prepare for the Mains Exam is more important than the months before the CSAT exams, so you study must continue in a flow. After you have had the mains examination, you must keep preparing for the interview.

It is very often found that candidates focus more on the optional and ignore the preparation for the general studies paper, up till the last month of the exam. This is not the right thing to do as the UPSC has increased the priority for the general studies paper and therefore the prelims are found to be based more on the general knowledge then the rotten knowledge an individual possesses. It is very important to be in sync with the advancements and the developments in India and even worldwide, as the mains papers too are more focused on your analytical and general knowledge.
