Green Energy Tips That Can Save You Money Today!

By Gwenda Bischof

What is green energy? It is a way to power our vehicles, electronics and other items, without hurting the environment in the process. This article will outline some tips and tricks on how to harness the power you need for everyday activities, without hurting the planet in the process.

If you want to make better use of energy in your home but aren't sure where to start, schedule a home energy audit from a professional auditor. These auditors can thoroughly investigate your home, and suggest ways to reduce your energy consumption, with green technology and other improvements.

Try using solar heated water in your home. Approximately 25% of yearly energy costs come from heating water. Using solar water panels is an excellent method of decreasing these costs. Because the sun's energy is utilized to heat up the water, you will not be using as much energy in your home.

When building your home, pay attention to its orientation. An ideal home should be protected against overhead sun during the summer and be oriented so that it gets low-angle sun in the winter. This is a good way to save money on your heating bill and will keep your home cool in the summer.

A good tip to help economized energy when you are ironing is to turn the iron only right before you need to use it. Irons heat up very quickly and many people waste energy by leaving them on way before they actually need to use them. You should also turn your iron off while you are completing your task as the residual heat will help finish the job.

If replacing all your windows and doors simply is not an option, you can still improve their energy efficiency quickly and cheaply with nothing more than a caulk gun and some weather stripping. Run your hand around the outer edge of doors and windows to feel for cool areas that indicate leaks, then apply a thin layer of caulk or a weather strip.

Wash your clothing in cold water. By staying away from warm and hot water washing cycles, you take the need to heat the water out of the picture, meaning more energy saved! With today's modern cold water detergents there is little to no effect on your clothing, so make the switch today to save some energy.

What you've read here is just a drop in the pond of green energy information. Continue seeking new knowledge, and use what you learn in your daily life to keep the Earth clean and alive while still powering all the modern amenities you need to make life a little easier.
