Professional Carpet Cleaning Can Make Your Carpets Look Great Again

By Chris K. Carpenter

New carpets in a home can create a warm and comfortable look for a house. Not only do new carpets look great they feel good on bare feet. However, with daily living, the fibers can begin to be pressed down and matted. Those new carpets begin to look old and worn. Professional carpet cleaning can help the rugs to look and feel new again.

The professionals arrive at the home ready to take care of the job. They first move all furniture to one side of the room. This gives unobstructed access to the whole rug. Once the first half is cleaned and had time to dry, furniture is moved to the opposite side to allow the other half of the rug to be cleaned.

The best professional companies use a powerful vacuum that is mounted in a truck or van to vacuum and extract the detergent solution. Before applying any liquid, they use this machine to dry vacuum the carpets. This removes loose dirt and dust that may have escaped the home vacuum cleaner. After this deep vacuuming process the rugs may already begin to look better.

While vacuuming, the technician is always on the lookout for stains and areas of high traffic. These spots will be pretreated with special chemicals that help to ensure they are removed from the carpets. In homes where there are pets, any spots they may have left are treated with special enzymes to eliminate smells.

With the steam extraction method, the next step is using the machine for injecting a solution of hot water and mild detergent into the fibers to help release dirt. If done correctly, only the nap of the rug becomes wet and the solution does not soak into the backing or pad. The gentle detergent is designed to leave little residue to attract more dirt. This is essential to ensure rugs remain clean as long as possible.

Almost as soon as the solution hits the fibers it releases the trapped dirt and is extracted from the fibers using the vacuum. The fibers may feel slightly damp to the touch but will dry within minutes after extraction. Technicians normally continue servicing the other rugs to provide additional drying time before the furniture will be moved back to the other side of the room for working on the other half.

Due to the highly efficient extraction of water from the carpets, they are usually dry by the time the other rooms of the home are cleaned. Before leaving the home, the technician will return all furniture to its former position. For best results, carpets should be cleaned about every six months to prevent the grit that is ground into the rug from cutting fibers and causing permanent damage.

Although it is not practical to install new carpets when the old ones become dirty, carpet cleaning can restore a like new look to existing carpets. Keeping them clean can preserve their useful life. In addition to regular professional services, the homeowner should vacuum regularly.
