Why Double Diaphragm Pumps Remain Popular In Industry

By Kelli Evans

Double diaphragm pumps are used for various purposes in industry and is one of the oldest pumping devices made by man. Also referred to as positive displacement or membrane pump, it includes rubber, Teflon and thermoplastic for pumping various substances. Features are described as versatile, reliable and multi-functional.

The various rotary components operate free from any contact with substances and therefore a wide variety of materials can be pumped using this device. These include abrasives, slurry and the ability to run dry. One will not have to account for speed controls as the system is able to operate according to varying speeds.

Devices are able to operate at higher pressures and also able to pump high volumes. A desirable features includes its ability to run dry for a period of time. The systems operate at a particular air pressure which cannot be higher than its discharge pressure and therefore less need to have to monitor and control for changes.

It is mainly used for its lifting properties, able to perform suction lifts of 20 feet. It is a sturdy device which can be completely submerged in fluid. Many have used the apparatus in cases where liquids of a high viscosity are required to be pumped.

Many are surprised at the fact that no electrical motors are included meaning protection against potential fire hazards. It can handle a vast range of substances from corrosive to fluid and even run dry. This allows for its versatility and applications in industry.

The sewage, chemical processing, automotive, packaging and paint manufacturing industries. It is essential that liquids with a higher viscosity are pumped at a decreased rate to prevent the formation of air holes. Double Diaphragm Pumps remain a popular choice in industry providing various advantageous features over other pumping systems.
