Live Integrative Nutrition Webinar with Dr. Joel Fuhrman

By Jennifer Wallace

There's no questiont that America's health crisis is getting worse: the majority of people are overweight or obese, and millions more suffer from type 2 diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, cancer, and other weight-related chronic illnesses. Though the situation is disastrous, there's hope: at the forefront of the health and wellness movement are the students, staff, and faculty of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, who are all committed to reversing the healthcare crisis, helping people lose weight, and forging a healthier future.

Integrative Nutrition's staff of visiting teachers and guest speakers includes leading physicians, PhDs, researchers, and authorities in the field of nutrition, health, and wellness. As Integrative Nutrition teaches that there's no single diet or way of eating that works for everyone, its faculty members present a wide spectrum of nutritional theories. Students are encouraged to experiment with different ways of eating - everything from vegetarianism to Atkins - and find the foods and lifestyles that best suit their needs.

One of Integrative Nutrition's visiting teachers Dr. Joel Fuhrman is a family physician who specializes in nutrition-based treatments for preventing and reversing chronic illness. TV show host Dr. Oz calls Dr. Fuhrman a "weight loss guru" and featured his approach to sustainable weight loss on the show as the only "crash diet" that has earned his seal of approval.

Dr. Fuhrman argues that the key to good health lies in a simple formula: health = nutrients/calories. In other words, if you eat food that is as nutrient-dense as possible, you'll be satisfied with fewer calories and ultimately will crave less processed food full of refined sugar and fat. His approach advises people to eat more vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts, and seeds; within a few weeks, you'll develop a preference for these new foods and will crave them over the junk of your former diet. In line with Integrative Nutrition's core theory of "crowding out" unhealthy food, Dr. Fuhrman emphasizes that weight loss is not achieved by depriving yourself of food and restricting calories, but rather by filling yourself up with whole, high-quality foods.

Integrative Nutrition will be holding a live webinar with Dr. Fuhrman on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 3pm EDT. As part of Integrative Nutrition's commitment to giving its students the opportunity to interact with its esteemed faculty, those who sign up for the webinar will be able to submit a question for Dr. Fuhrman; the top ten questions will be asked live on the air.
