Fighting obesity with The Mediterranean Diet

By Pamella Rodriguez

One of the major issues with the current trends in dieting in the United States is that almost all of the diet plans revolve around starvation or reliance on chemical supplements in the form of pills, protein bars, shakes and powders. Almost no thought is given to whole foods and real nutrition, with most people thinking they just don't have time to prepare something.

As a result, the United States is the world leader in obesity, with the Center for Disease Control estimating that 72% of Americans are overweight or obese. Out of those 72%, an estimated 34% are considered obese to the point of dangerously unhealthy, and out of those 34% only an estimated 6% have an actual genetic reason for being obese. The rest of those are simply fat because they don't know any better, or they just don't care.

And out of those six percent who claim they have no choice but to be fat because their genes are in control, the wake-up call comes in the form of the latest research from The Medical Research Council. Their Epidemiology Unit in Cambridge released the latest results of a study which showed that 40% of obese people following the Mediterranean Diet who incorporated regular fitness actually lost weight.

That's powerful information. It means that out of the six percent of people who claim they have no choice but to be fat, that their weight is completely out of their control, only half of them are actually, truly fat because they have no choice. The other half can eliminate obesity from their lives altogether through a simple combination of a whole food eating plan such as The Mediterranean Diet while also doing some regular fitness.

Working out isn't difficult. In fact, most experts agree that the hardest part of weight loss isn't the associated workouts, but the actual controlling of the diet. All medical experts agree that it's only 30% fitness in any case; 70% of the benefits you get from any healthy lifestyle changes are related purely to the diet and the food you take. It's all about getting out what you put in, and if you put garbage into your body you are going to get garbage out.

Nutrition is the number 1 rule when it comes to establishing a workout, and that's why the research shows The Mediterranean Diet is the world's only choice for whole foods and raw nutrition. You eat fruits and vegetables seven to ten times per day as part of this lifestyle regimen, which means over 80% of the nutrition is coming straight from Mother Nature rather than a protein bar or synthetic shake, which means there's nothing but pure, raw Earth power going in. That's good news for overweight and obese people, because now they have a truly healthy choice rather than trying to rely on magical pills which don't work.
