Adding A Pond Aquascape To Your Landscaping Plans

By Michael Obrien

This year, maybe it is time to skip the boring routine of planting the same flowers and the same shrubbery year after year. Try something special and add a pond aquascape to the yard or patio. A water feature is a unique way to add visual interest to your landscaping design. It is perfect for large or small spaces. Water features are a fun hobby that adds a feeling of tranquility to your space.

Installing a water garden is a rewarding and fun and project. Most designs utilize fish, plants and rocks, or some combination of all three. Some are built right in the ground, while others can be designed in flower pots or smaller tanks that are placed above ground. Whichever you choose, designs can be customized to your taste and plants can be added from year to year.

This type of water feature is often more visually interesting because the species of plants used are quite different from what would be seen in a traditional garden that is planted directly in soil. Another unique feature is the sound of running water, which adds a feeling of tranquility to your space. Furthermore, maintaining a water feature is a great hobby for both gardeners and fish enthusiasts.

The types of water features you could install are almost limitless, so it is easy to pick something you love that will also work well for your space. A pond aquascape typically includes plenty of plants as well as a few fish. However, some only use rocks arranged in an artistic fashion to create a unique water feature. This type of water feature could be as large or small as you like, depending on the space you have available.

A small design could be used as an indoor accent or placed outside on a small deck or patio. Glass tanks, unique pots or other vessels can be used to create small water features. Fish can be added as long as the proper filtration is also added.

A larger aquascape may be the best choice for a small backyard or an average patio. Installing an in ground design is a very attractive option if you have the space. It allows more space to create a unique design. To add a feeling of serenity to your backyard, a waterfall is another great option.

If you are landscaping a community area, a commercial building or a large backyard, a large in ground aquascape would be the perfect choice. Landscaped pathways and accent lighting could be added to give the look of a tropical oasis. Colorful annual flowers could be added to the surrounding pathways and could be updated every season.

Adding a pond aquascape to your landscaping plans is a great alternative to simply planting a few flowers or shrubbery. No matter what size you choose, this type of feature adds a unique and tranquil feeling to any space. The ongoing maintenance of both the fish and the plants is a great hobby that far outweighs simply cutting the grass every weekend.
