The Most Common Construction Equipment

By Harvey Johanson

Construction equipment, whether a building vehicle or a power tool are a must at any building project. Some established builders have their own building equipment, while most contractors still prefer renting them. One of the main reasons for renting is that buying one will surely cost a lot, and so will maintenance. These are often classified under earth moving, road making, or hauling tools or vehicles, just to name a few.

Perhaps the most common type of building vehicle is the bulldozer. This is classified as an earth moving vehicle. It has a metal plate, also known as blade, that is used to push huge quantities of sand, soil, or debris.

It also has a claw like device at the back which is called the ripper. These have tracks that give them excellent hold and mobility even on rough terrains. It digs up rocks that the blade cannot handle, such as hardened lava flow.

Backhoes play a big role in work sites. It is an excellent tool for excavation, with its movable arm and digging bucket. It deposits debris and dirt into a dump truck or trailer, which are afterwards hauled off the building site.

Backhoes are used mainly for residential building work. It is specifically designed for this purpose, hence, it's compact build. Its function, however, is not limited to digging alone, it can also be used to lift heavy materials after attaching some chains on it.

Hydraulic breakers are power tools that are mostly seen in building and road work sites. This construction equipment is created to demolish concrete structures and rocks. It is a lot more powerful than a jackhammer, and are more often preferred than the latter. They are also known as hydraulic peckers or hammers. They can make concrete and rock demolition a much easier task. These are used especially on sites which have environmental or safety concerns, or if a regular jackhammer is not enough to get the job done.
